Hallwalls...

The excursion to the Buffalo Hallwalls was as usual, rewarding! I really loved the idea that if you become a member, you can submit work, for a small fee. The hallwalls have been around for over 37 years! Since the 1970s, Hallwalls has been in the front and center of all the action in Buffalo! Of all the alternative space in Buffalo, the Hallwells are  artist-run movement, informing and challenging people of all types with  with new ideas and introducing artists, both known and unknown into the national and international art world. Centered right here in  wonderful Buffalo, NY some of these artists changed the face of contemporary art history in the late 20th century. Through the 1980s, and current the Buffalo  Hallwalls was and has been the on the frontiers of new media, free jazz, performance art, experimental fiction and hip-hop culture. The Buffalo Hallwalls are noted for the follwing features:

-"fulfilling the core mission of supporting the production and presentation of new and challenging work across diverse media and disciplines, including the visual arts, film, video, music, literature, and performance"

-"continuing our ongoing relationship with educational institutions, including the Buffalo Academy for Visual & Performing Arts, to develop future artists and patrons by bringing students into direct contact with the creative class of the early 21st century"

-"spearheading community collaborations and collective action, leading advocacy efforts on behalf of the arts community; taking principal roles in collaborative cultural efforts, including Beyond/In Western New York; and always speaking out on behalf of public funding and community support for cultural institutions across our city and region"

-Throughout its celebrated history, Hallwalls has proven that Buffalo is a bright spotlight on the Great Lakes and Buffalo region,  creating Buffalo to be "an outpost on an international border, the western edge of the Empire State". The Buffalo Hallwells gets attention based on their exert our influence, and make a major difference in Buffalo NY!
